4 Tips to Help You Feel More Body Positive

What’s inside this article: Four actionable tips to help you feel more body positive, loving yourself and the skin you’re in. All bodies are beautiful and deserve love regardless of physical ability, size, gender, race, or appearance.

Body Positivity is a social movement rooted in the belief that all human beings should have a positive body image while challenging the ways in which society presents and views the physical body.

The movement advocates the acceptance of all bodies regardless of physical ability, size, gender, race, or appearance.

Sounds great – but how do you feel that way about your self, when you’re self-conscious about your own body?

Becoming Body Positive

Becoming body positive in a journey towards self-love that challenges how you think, behave, and live.

You’ve got to learn how to let go of body shame or negative thought patterns that are preventing you from loving yourself.

These tips will help grow the love you have for yourself, helping you become body positive.

1. Remove The Sources of Toxic Shame

What triggers make you feel shame about your body? Think about it, make note – and cut those sources of shame out of your life.

This includes movies, shows, magazines, music, and people that deliver negative messages about your body and harm your self-worth.

Find more time for self-care that nurtures your body and makes you feel better about yourself.

  • meditation
  • reading
  • spending time outside
  • dancing
  • writing

Whatever helps you feel joy in yourself, do it.

2. Mute Negative Self-Talk

The voices in our head are often the ones that are hardest on us. Negative self-talk can drown you in body-shame if you let it.

Listen carefully to your inner voice. Speak to yourself kindly. Take notice of negative self-talk and work to reframe those thoughts with positive affirmations.

3. Be Unapologetic

Don’t avoid looking at your body, or touching your body. Don’t feel like you need to cover it up just because of the way it looks.

Take time to become comfortable with your body, then do what ever is comfortable and be unapologetic about it.

Remember, there is no such thing as a bad body, a disgusting body, a body to be ashamed of.

No matter what you look like: You are capable of incredible strength.

4. Collective Compassion

Become part of socially transformative movements that affirm the inherent worth and value of underrepresented, undervalued, and underprivileged people around the world.

In other words – get out there and build up others! Spread these positive messages far and wide. Open up about your own insecurities while showing compassion to others.

We can all spread the message that there is beauty in everybody.

You are not your bra-size, nor are you the width of your waist, nor are you the slenderness of your calves.

You are not your hair color, your skin color, nor are you a shade of lipstick. Your shoe size is of no consequence.

You are not defined by the attention you get from males, females, or any combination thereof.

You are not the number of sit-ups you can do, nor are you the number of calories you eat in a day. You are not the hair on your legs, you are not a little black dress.

You are no amalgam of these things.

You are the content of your character, the ambitions that drive you, and the goals that you set.

You are the things that you laugh at and the words that you say. You have the thoughts you think and the things you wonder.

You are beautiful and desirable for the spark of life within you that compels you to make your life a full and meaningful one.

You are beautiful not for the shape of your vessel but for the volume of soul it carries.
