7 Ways To Be Healthier & Happier in 2021

Living a healthy lifestyle isn’t just about what you eat. Eating healthy is just one aspect of being physically and mentally healthy. And being healthy is crucial to your happiness!

I believe trying to continuously better yourself is important so I’m going to list a few ways to live healthier that I’m personally working on, that you can work on, too.

1. Be Physically Active

Whether that’s working out, playing sports, or going on walks – physical activity plays a huge part in your well-being.

Plan physical activity into your daily routine. I set a time for me to go to my gym after my daughter goes to school and we go on evening walks as a family, weather permitting.

There are so many ways to keep active – you don’t need to be in the gym if that’s not something you enjoy. It’s important that exercise is also pleasurable.

  • Swimming
  • Biking
  • Walking/jogging
  • Sports
  • Hiking
  • Working out at home or the gym
  • Yoga
  • Group fitness classes

Plus making small changes in your day-to-day routines can have a big impact on your physical activity

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Park at the back of the parking lot when you go shopping
  • Spend extra time playing with your pets or kids
  • Turn on your favorite music and dance while you clean

2. Keep a Positive Outlook on Life

Having a positive outlook on life, being optimistic, actually improves not just your mental health but your physical health, too.

Are you surrounded by things and people that make you happy? If so, great! If not it’s time to consider which aspects of your life are positively impacting your attitude and which are not.

Does your job suck you dry? Perhaps 2021 should be the year you look for a new company to work for?

There have been several times that I had to get a pen and paper out and write down what was currently making me happy and what was bringing me down.

Think about the negatives currently impacting your life and determine which are in your control.

The controllable negatives. What is having an impact on your happiness? Is it Suzie’s posts about her “perfect life” on Instagram? Unfollow her.

The uncontrollable negatives. Is something negatively impacting you that’s beyond your control? Maybe you or a loved one received bad news from the doctor, or your car broke down and now you’re facing a large expense.

These uncontrollable negatives can range from minor to catastrophic. If they’re damaging your mental health – seek support.

The controllable positives. Leave them as is, or find ways to ignite them.

3. Eat Healthier

Your body needs nutritious food to fuel it with all the nutrients, minerals, amino-acids, etc. to complete all your bodily functions, cellular repair, balance neurotransmitters, etc.

If the food you’re eatting isn’t filled with the fuel you need to maintain your health, it’s time to change your eating habits.

our brain is always “on.” It takes care of your thoughts and movements, your breathing and heartbeat, your senses — it works hard 24/7, even while you’re asleep. This means your brain requires a constant supply of fuel. That “fuel” comes from the foods you eat — and what’s in that fuel makes all the difference. Put simply, what you eat directly affects the structure and function of your brain and, ultimately, your mood.

4. Adopt a Zero-Waste or Low-Waste Lifestyle

The increasing production of waste is becoming one of the most dangerous environmental issues faced by the world.

Can you believe an average American produces 1,704 pounds of trash every year? Most of which is sent to landfill.

You can feel better about yourself and have a sense of accomplishment, knowing you’re doing your part to keep our planet healthy.

5. Balance Your Budget

This is such a tough one. Sometimes it feels as if you are never going to get on track – I know the feeling. You need to find a balance.

You need to create, and stick to, a budget that works for you.

Gaining control of your finances can lift an immense amount of stress off your shoulders. We all know stress impacts your health and happiness, you’ll feel so much better once you have a solid financial plan.

6. Manage Your Time More Efficiently

Time is one of the most valuable things to possess.

Make enough of it for what’s important. That could be spending time with your family, traveling, education, teaching, earning money, or making and creating things.

So what does having enough time mean to you?

This could be one of the greatest ways to live happier and healthier.

Prioritizing and dedicate time to accomplish your goals and do the things you enjoy!

Plan out your day in advance. Where does your time go in the run of a day? Do you have any deadlines coming up? Appointments? Create a daily schedule that will account for all obligations!

7. Practice Self-Care

You can emotionally and physically be healthier and happier by implementing better habits and routines. Your body and mind need to relax.

Practicing self-care is important for avoiding ‘burnout.’

You can prevent burnout by practicing a few of these things:

  • Doing crafts
  • Working out
  • Having coffee with a friend
  • Working with purpose
  • Relaxing
  • Creating routines
  • Managing your time
  • Binging your favorite shows
  • Going to the spa
